The Coastal Track - me and Locko go a yomping

The Coastal Track in the Royal National Park is one of the classic walks in Australia and snakes 26km south along the coast from Sydney.  The start of the walk is a remote village called Bundeena which is reached by ferry.

We reached Bundeena on the ferry from Cronulla - pitched the tent and headed off for an enormous body fortifying Chinese meal and beer ............

Most of my time in Australia has seen sunny day after sunny day.  However On the eve of our big walk the sky opened (see wet tent above).  We woke to a very wet Friday morning and delayed our start til 10.00am and managed to detour via the coffee shop for not so light refreshments with Lizy declaring we would not be getting the 11.00am ferry back to Sydney, rather we would head off into the rain ....................

We walked for about 3 hours in the rain over headlands and across beautiful beaches.

By mid afternoon the rain slowed then cleared.  We saw plenty of wildlife en route including a fox and a wallaby.

The camp ground was at North Era beach a remote location by a beach. We were the only people there.

The only draw back with this walk was the lack of water.  The only source was at Garie Beach 1.5km north of the campsite and over a big hill.  We miscalculated our needs and I ended up walking back over the hill early on the second day to re-stock.  However it did give me chance to see the most wonderful sunrise.

On returning back to the campsite you could see the tent down by the beach and the coastline stretching south.

We had a much shorter day, walking about 6 miles to Otford, taking in the figure of 8 pools - these amazing naturally occuring rock pools.  The weather was stunning as the photo's show ..........

Lizy thought it might be fun to grab the camera ...........................

We finished the walk in fine form and took the train back into Sydney planning our next adventure on the way.
